Your air conditioner is a complex machine, but one of its most important components is its air handler.
An air handler regulates and circulates air from your cooling system throughout your home. If your air handler fails, your AC won’t be able to move cool air, which, as you can imagine, drastically reduces its ability to do its job—if it can do it at all.
At TR Miller Heating, Cooling & Plumbing, we provide fast, efficient air handler installation and repair in Downers Grove, IL, and the surrounding areas. Our team has the experience to work with AC units of all types and sizes. You can count on us to get your system up and running again.
Not sure if your air handler is the problem? Not a problem—we also offer comprehensive AC repair services!
Does Your Air Handler Need Repair?
While the most obvious sign of an air handler problem is a lack of airflow, that’s most common when the component has failed completely. There are other signs that your air handler is about to fail:
- Decreased air movement
- Stale air or unusual odors
- Loud noises during operation
- Reduced cooling ability
If you notice any of the above, get in touch with our team at TR Miller Heating, Cooling & Plumbing. We can diagnose and resolve the issue fast and affordably.
Is It Time for an Air Handler Replacement?
Anytime a heating or cooling component fails, the first question homeowners often ask is: should I repair or replace it? When it comes to your air handler, the answer to that question depends on two factors:
- How old is it?
- How often has it required repairs?
Generally, air handlers have a life span of 10 to 15 years, so if yours is older than that, it's time to consider a replacement. However, your unit may fail before that or even survive longer than that. That's why you also want to factor in how often you're having trouble with it. If it's often failing or showing signs of decreased efficiency, you're likely better off with a replacement regardless of age.
Is your AC more than 15 years old? Consider replacing the entire unit with our AC installation services.
Prevent Air Handler Failures In the Future
While, as mentioned, air handlers have a decent lifespan, how you care for yours has a significant impact on how long it will last. The key to avoiding the need for air handler repair or replacement is proper maintenance.
We recommend semi-annual maintenance checks along with a filter replacement or cleaning on your AC. We're happy to handle that for you and even have a VIP membership club, which includes service discounts and maintenance.
